Breakfast of Champions Fundraiser: A Success!!!!
To kick off the morning of the spring game, we held our annual fundraising event for the FCA chaplaincy position for Virginia Tech football. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of what God is doing in the lives of players and coaches and to raise funds to sustain the position. Both were accomplished as more than 220 people attended the event from all over the state of Virginia and some from North Carolina and funds continue to come in. We will send a total update as soon as final pledges come in. Praise the Lord!!!!!!!!!!
The morning started with a silent auction that featured items such as autographed jerseys from Ryan Williams and Tyrod Taylor. Also from Chris Ellis ( Buffalo Bills)& Macho Harris ( Philadelphia Eagles). There was also fellowship time with coaches, current and former players.
Master of Ceremonies was Travis Wells, WDBJ7 Sports Director and current FCA Leadership Board Member. Coach Frank Beamer kicked off the event by telling everyone how important the chaplain position has been to the football team and urged people to support the program. The highlight of the program was a panel discussion in which current players John Graves, Andre Smith,Collin Carroll, and Kenny Lewis, Jr. along with former players Brent Bowden, Nekos Brown, Macho Harris, Justin Harper & Orion Martin were asked questions about Faith & Football. It was a special time as players shared favorite scriptures and how their Faith got them through on and off the field struggles. Other current players in attendance included Justin Myer,Courtney Prince, Ju Ju Clayton, Lyndell Gibson & Brian Saunders. Former players were Cam Martin, Matt Waldron & Cory Holt.
It was very encouraging to hear how having a chaplain in their lives during this time has helped them grow in their walk with the Lord and also help them through other areas of life. ALL GLORY TO GOD!!!!
I then closed out the program by Thanking everyone for their support and challenging them to live a life for Christ.
